OnePlus shutdown rumours have started to make rounds on the internet. The Chinese phone maker has officially confirmed that Robin Liu, the man leading its India operations, has stepped down – a development that has sent fresh waves of speculation reigniting questions about the future of the Chinese smartphone brand in one of the world’s most important markets.

OnePlus said in an official statement that OnePlus India CEO Robin Liu has resigned. “We thank Robin for his contributions to OnePlus India. He moves on to pursue his personal passions, and we wish him the very best for his future endeavours,” the company said, adding, “OnePlus India operations continue with local strategy and business continuity ensured.”While the company’s statement was brief, a report by The Economic Times claimed that the picture is a bit complicated. The report said that Liu did not simply walk out the door, he was asked to report to Realme CEO Sky Li, who has recently been elevated within the broader Oppo group to oversee sub-brand operations. The key detail here is that both Liu and Li were previously considered equals, each managing their own sub-brand independently. That is no longer the case.

Just months ago, Robin Liu publicly defended OnePlus against the speculation of company winding up operations in India.“I wanted to address some misinformation that has been circulating about OnePlus India and its operations. We’re operating as usual and will continue to do so. Never Settle,” Liu said in a post on X in January 2026. “Recent unverified reports claiming OnePlus is shutting down are false. OnePlus India’s business operations continue as normal. We urge all stakeholders to verify information from official sources before sharing unsubstantiated claims,” OnePlus said at that time.
OnePlus numbers tell a worrying story
OnePlus’s sales figures in India have had a hit in India. The company recorded a 32% decline in shipments in 2025, according to data from Cybermedia Research (via PTI). The International Data Corporation (IDC) report puts the drop even higher – an estimated 38.8% year-on-year decline in shipments over the same period.
What happens next
OnePlus has neither issued a fresh statement in this regard nor announced a replacement for Liu as well as offered details about what its restructured leadership will look like in India. For now, the company’s message is clear: it is not going anywhere.
