School headmistress dances to TVK chief Vijay's movie song, suspended

TRICHY: A 58-year-old govt school headmistress from Thanjavur district was suspended on Wednesday after she danced to a Vijay movie song at a Women’s Day event earlier this month. This follows a video of the dance performance doing the rounds on social media. Sources said the action was taken on the ground that, as a govt employee, participating in a political party event and dancing on stage violated Tamil Nadu Government Servants’ Conduct Rules, 1973.Krishnaveni, aged 58, from Pinnaiyur, was headmistress of the panchayat union elementary school at Sankaranatharkudikadu and in charge of another school at Vellathevanviduthi. On Mar 8, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) conducted events across Tamil Nadu to celebrate International Women’s Day. During the event held near Orathanadu, Krishnaveni danced to the song ‘Kodampakkam area’ from the 2005 movie Sivakasi, in which TVK president Vijay had acted.Attendees recorded a video of Krishnaveni’s dance performance. After circulating on social media for more than two weeks, it eventually came to the attention of the school education department. Following an inquiry, V Mathiyazhagan, district primary education officer of Pattukkottai educational district, ordered suspension of headmistress Krishnaveni.
