CHENNAI: Contending that ‘Dhurandhar 2’ contains political content, a PIL has been filed in Madras high court to stall the screening of the film in Tamil Nadu till the completion of assembly elections in the state. She said screening the movie will be violative of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) currently in force in the state. On Monday, advocate Sheela made a mention seeking urgent hearing of the plea to stall screening of the movie ‘Dhurandhar 2’.
Allowing the mention, the first bench of Chief Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari and Justice G Arul Murugan suggested the petitioner file a formal petition for the court to consider the plea. The petitioner submitted that since the MCC has been in force from March 15, and as the film allegedly contains significant political content and promotes views favouring a particular party, its screening in Tamil Nadu should be restrained at present. She suggested that the film could be permitted to be released in the state after the elections. After hearing the submission, the court said that the film has already been released and advised the petitioner to file a proper writ petition instead of making an oral urgent mention.
