AHMEDABAD: A 64-year-old doctor who went to treat an injured patient late at night was attacked by a man at the scene, struck on the head with a steel walking stick, and left needing 16 stitches.The incident took place around 11.30pm on Friday in the Samarth Nagar area of Sardarnagar. The doctor received a phone call from a local resident who said he was injured and bleeding and needed help. The doctor went to the patient’s home and found him with a head injury.“While the doctor was treating the patient, a man who was also present at the house began arguing with the patient. The patient told the doctor that this man had verbally abused him, hit him on the head with a plastic bucket, and threatened to kill him,” according to the complaint filed by the doctor with the Airport police. The doctor tried to intervene and calm the situation, telling both men that as neighbours they should resolve the matter peacefully. The accused turned on him. “The accused abused me, stating, ‘Do whatever you want, but do not speak between us’,” the doctor said in his complaint. “He then struck me on the left side of my head with a steel walking stick, causing severe bleeding. He also threatened to kill me,” the doctor told the police.When bystanders stepped in, the accused turned on them too, attacking them and threatening to kill everyone present. A woman suffered injuries to both hands. Another person sustained minor injuries.Emergency services were called. The doctor, the original patient, and two others were taken to Civil Hospital. The doctor required 16 stitches to the left side of his head.
